A song is a living {rganism - every project starts and develops differently

almost there…! your song and all of that effort is closer to be an audio file on your desktop {{{

almost there…! your song and all of that effort is closer to be an audio file on your desktop {{{

so now your song has been written, arranged, recorded and produced and it’s time to clean it up and bring it to the finish line with some post-production work

we offer two branches of the post-production process: EDITING and MIXING

EDITING

for recordings that need some tightening, before the mix stage

editing is a process which is especially relevant when performances are strong but need some technical refinement to feel somewhat clean and consistent - this can include vocal comping, timing adjustments/pocketing, cleaning recordings (like removing background noises at the start or end of takes), aligning performances, or subtle pitch correction when needed

the goal isn’t to change the character of a performance, but to remove some technical distractions so that the emotional intent comes through more clearly

editing is a technical endeavour and due to our experience we prefer to separate it from the mixing stage which requires a creative hat

MIXING

(making your songs and final recordings make sonic and emotional sense)

for recorded songs that need clarity, balance, and refinement before release

you might have heard the old music adage: “record and arrange like there’s no mixing - mix like there’s no mastering” - but even when all the right elements are *there*, a track can still feel unclear and unfocused - the vocals might not be sitting properly with the instrumental, masking might be occurring between elements, and the overall emotional and sonic impact might not translate in the way intended

mixing is the process of figuring all that out, by setting levels, automation, tone, depth, dynamics and stereo placement so every element has its place and purpose. to us mixing is a creative endeavour which can involve techniques like re-amping, muting elements in the arrangement and sound shaping. we work mostly ITB (in the box) - so recall is easy - but we’re also likely to run some of your tracks through our devices

our mixing style can be somewhat atypical - we usually like to start with a reference-less version - if we ask for references they are usually visual, not musical. somehow that helps us understand the general aesthetic better. then we use samply for the revision process and through back and forth collaboration with the artist we aim to reach a mix we both like

once again, talking money in a creative environment can be weird at times. we understand first-hand that creativity is fluid and songs evolve constantly throughout the process - ideas shift and projects take on unexpected directions. so at PGS we aim to establish a healthy and transparent structure early on, allowing the creative process to flow freely afterwards

every “control room” project has a fixed rate per/song for “Mixing” and an hourly/daily rate for “Editing”

there’s no “right way to mix a song”, and because we mix mostly ITB, we currently don’t work with a limited number of revisions - turning the bass up on a version and down again on the next is no problem to us… in cases where the revision notes ask for complete foundational remix or the addition of new tracks after we’ve been deep in the process, we may require an adjustment to the original budget and will charge a flat “remix revision” fee

for “Editing”, it’s simple, we set the clock and do the work as carefully and efficiently as we can - we’re quite fast!

to secure studio time, project scheduling, and preparation work, a non-refundable deposit is required once the project scope and budget have been agreed upon

we also understand that every artist and project exists within different financial realities, and we are always open to discuss approaches that make sense for the songs and the artist behind the song
