A song is a living {rganism - every project starts and develops differently

based on our experience, we figured that ramifying those development stages onto three branches would help us identifying the song stage and project’s scope, providing us with a starting framework and expectation

so we operate across 3 branches of song development and collaboration: SEED, TREE and GARDEN

A song is a living {rganism - every project starts and develops differently

SEED

SEED (discovering what the song wants to become)

(discovering what the song wants to become)

this is where all songs start… a fragment on a notebook. a late night mumbled melody voice memo on a phone. a single verse-chorus system. a chord progression or a guitar riff that has the potential to become something more… you know how it goes…

this stage is often times slower, more conversational and referential - centred around creating and developing melodies, lyrics, verses, structures from a starting point (SEED). we’re going to discover what the song wants to become before we even press record (although we are also firm believers that “the actual recording” and how it sounds is also “the song”)

TREE

A man with dark hair, beard, and glasses sitting on a chair outdoors under leafless trees with sunlight shining through, in front of a tall concrete wall.

TREE (from demos and voice memos to finished songs)

(from demos and voice memos to finished songs

projects and songs at this stage already have a stronger foundation - whether that’s a phone recording of the full song or a “pre-produced demo”, there’s an established reference and expectation, and a defined artistic direction

from here on, through discussing influences, developing arrangements and instrumentation, sonic exploration and sound design, recording sessions, performance guidance, and more technical parts of the process like editing and “mix prep”, we’re going to move some air and create a fully produced recording of the song

GARDEN

GARDEN (whole world building around a collection of songs - eps/lps)

is your song part of a collection of other songs, or a group of demos that you want to further explore sonically and artistically, so they all end up cohesively in the same collection? that’s what we call a GARDEN!

projects that fall under this category may ask for a deeper collaborative guidance from our side, and they may involve multiple recording phases often times with a stricter schedule, evolving arrangements, deeper explorations around tone, pacing and cohesion between tracks. we’re going to build an entire sonic world around the songs and make some records

working together

PGS came together from years of making music in bedrooms, hallways, rehearsal spaces, small venues, and temporary setups long before becoming an open and dedicated studio space. because of that, our approach here is less about forcing artists into a traditional studio environment and more about creating an environment where songs can develop naturally with care and time - some projects might need detailed production and arrangement work. others might only need a good performance, the right atmosphere, and somebody paying close attention the technical side of things and the emotional weight of the song - we’re here for whatever it’s necessary

in “production”, we aim to establish a space where artists feel comfortable experimenting, refining ideas, and building records - while still keeping the process organised and sustainable for everyone involved - by discussing the current stage of your song(s), creative goals and references, recording and production needs, timeline expectations, the overall scope of the collaboration needed from us and budget before we start working

working with us opens the door to our network of musicians, tools and recording spaces - something we’re VERY proud of!

talking money in a creative environment can be weird at times. we understand first-hand that creativity can be fluid and songs evolve constantly throughout the process - ideas shift, arrangements grow, and projects take on unexpected directions. so at PGS we aim to establish a healthy and transparent structure early on, allowing the creative process to flow freely afterwards

here every production project is estimated individually and it is dependent on the development stage of a song, recording needs, complexity of arrangement, timeline and collaborators involved - all of these elements are discussed before any real work begins

as a song develops and a project evolves it’s completely normal that ideas expand or shift direction. small revisions and refinements are always part of the process and we’re here for it. projects involving major arrangement rewrites, extensive re-recording sessions or any other larger significant production changes may require adjustments to the original estimate - this is always discussed beforehand with the artist

to secure studio time, project scheduling, and preparation work, a non-refundable deposit is required once the project scope and budget have been agreed upon

we also understand that every artist and project exists within different financial realities, and we are always open to discuss approaches that make sense for the songs and the artist behind the song - you might not have the budget for that live orchestra, but we can help find another way
