The rec{rding process at out Studios is designed to adapt to the needs of your song
every project requires a different approach to recording. some performances are intimate and focused, others involve multiple musicians interacting in a shared space, while others are built gradually (brick by brick) through overdubs
so we offer 3 branches of recording and collaboration: PORTRAIT, LANSCAPE and LAYERS
portrait
portrait (performed by the artist)
(performed by the artist)
single-source setups for recordings with a minimalistic setup
What: recording of “single-source” instrument and voice: vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, any kind of guitar, bass, keys, DI instruments, winds, strings, percussion, and so on…
Who for: vocalists, instrumentalists, overdubs (performed by the artist), voiceovers and recordings for commercials, piano players looking for a simple recording setup, bands who want to record single-source instruments “brick by brick” (ie overdubs)
Includes: simple microphone setup; session setup/prep.time; recording engineer (Diogo); routing and session management; light editing and exporting in the requested formats
landscape
landscape (performed by the artist)
(performed by the artist)
multi-source and multi-microphone setups for more technically demanding recordings
What: recording of multi-source instruments, or single-source instruments with multi-microphone setups: live multi-track recordings, live ensembles, bands, upright piano and drums
Who for: ensembles, choirs, drummers, piano players looking for a more complex recording setup, bands who want to record in a room together, singer-songwriters looking to record instrument + vocals at the same time, or anyone looking to record a “single-source instrument” with more options
Includes: multi-microphone setup; multi-channel recordings; session setup/prep. time; recording engineer (Diogo); routing and session management; light editing and exporting in the requested formats
(live multi-tracking of bands currently unavailable at our own space - but reach out for our current alternatives!)
layers
layers (performed by us and our session (p)layers)
(performed by us and our session (p)layers)
single or multi source setups, recorded by us and our session P(LAYERS)!
What: we’re proud of the community we’ve been building over the years, so we are able to record any of these elements from our studio’s network: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, classical guitar, braguesa guitar, ukulele, bass, piano, casio keyboards, organ, harmonium, vocals, violin, viola, cello, double bass, saxophone, flute, clarinet, ocarina, clarinet, bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, drums and percussion, xylophone, glockenspiel, orchestral percussion, choirs - all played by musicians, mostly from the region of Aveiro
Who for: you have a written part and need someone to play it OR you’re looking for someone to write a part and record it for your song
Includes: hiring and scheduling of musicians, single or multi microphone setup; single or multi channel recordings; session setup/prep time; recording engineer (Diogo); routing and session management; light editing and exporting in the requested formats
Doesn’t Include: notation writing for the parts which might be requested from you, so that the recording sessions can run smoothly. we can also hire someone if you can’t write it yourself, it just might take a bit longer!
Not in Aveiro? No worries, our P(LAYERS) are open to remote session work
recording rate$ info
talking money in a creative environment can be weird at times. we understand first-hand that creativity is fluid and songs evolve constantly throughout the process - ideas shift and projects take on unexpected directions. so at PGS we aim to establish a healthy and transparent structure early on, allowing the creative process to flow freely afterwards
for our PORTRAIT and LANDSCAPE branches we offer hourly and daily rates (a day is 8 hours at our studios)
for the LAYERS branch we charge an hourly/daily rate for the hired musician + the standard PORTRAIT or LANDSCAPE daily/hourly rate depending on the studio setup requested by you
to secure studio time, project scheduling, and preparation work, a non-refundable deposit is required once the project scope and budget have been agreed upon
we also understand that every artist and project exists within different financial realities, and we are always open to discuss approaches that make sense for the songs and the artist behind the song

the key difference is our creative involvement. if you just wish to record with us, no song parts or arrangement is going to be discussed. You’re simply just buying “recording time” at our studio using our tools.

No worries! In case of more demanding parts we might require actual notation for our musicians to play. We can outsource notation writing to one of our musicians in those cases too. If the part is a midi file, send it as well, it helps.

Yes! Some of our recording work has actually been done remotely. We usually send some rough recordings at the end of the recording day.
If needed we can use Audiomovers, Sonobus and Muse to record remotely and offer the client the experience to sit in the studio with us. Despite that, if the part isn’t written yet we might reserve the right to privately explore a little bit first until we are comfortable with an attended session -
